BMX RACE

The sport of the BMX has two disciplines, the BMX-FREESTYLE that is practiced in the street, the Bike / Skate Parks and the “Campillos” of jumps in the field, also known as “Dirt Jumps”. And the BMX RACE, which is only practiced on BMX circuits. The BMX Race is an Olympic discipline from the last Games of Beijing 2008 and London 2012.

There are in turn two basic modalities in BMX Race, BMX Supercross which is the Olympic modality and the World Cup Supercross where only the Junior and Elite of this sport can compete in huge circuits with huge jumps, and the traditional modality Amateur which is practiced by all, both elites and amateurs where the circuits are smaller and accessible to anyone who wants to practice this exciting sport.

THE BIKE:

You will need a BMX Race Bike. In this discipline they change a lot of bikes according to the age that you have. Up to 6 years the size Micro-Mini, 7-8 years the Mini, 9-10 years the Junior, 11-13 years the Expert, 14-16 years the Pro and from 17 years the Pro XL. Then there are also the 24-inch large bikes called “Cruisers” highly recommended for the elderly and parents who run in categories 30-39 and over 40 because they are much more stable.

In BMX is very important the size of the bike that you are going to take, especially in the categories of less than 14 years. The size of the bike is fundamental so that you can handle it well by the jumps and curves of the circuit. It is important to get on it and see that it suits you. You only have to go one day to the trainings of your club to ask anyone of your age or the age of your child to know the size that corresponds to you.

CLOTHING AND PROTECTIONS:

The dress is very similar to the Mountain Bike mode of Descent. We need helmets and protections in case we ever fall.

The basic and essential equipment is:

  • Helmet.
  • Long pants.
  • Jersey Race long sleeve.
  • Gloves.
  • BMX Shoes
  • And very recommendable Elbows and Knee Pads.

Falls usually have no consequence, but it is always better to have protections as in any another deport

THE LICENSE:

Once you already have the bike and you have contacted your Club and you have started to take your first laps to a BMX circuit, the next recommended step is to get the federative license, with it you will have the right to health insurance and you will be able to participate in regional and national BMX competitions.

The Clubs are the ones that will facilitate the procedures to take the license, in fact they are the ones that will manage it in your name.
